Our Story…
This creative hub has been graced with the most fabulous, friendly and caring individuals from near and far. We like to think that the family and friends that meet and greet you are yours too.
As you walk through the elegant Victorian entrance, past the 1930s chandelier, the room screams character. The sort of character that makes you smile, then laugh, like an old friend that no matter how long it’s been since your last perfectly brewed coffee in a mismatched, granny-chic ‘50s cup, it’s still the same comforting and natural relationship you remember. All your worries and fears melt away.
At The Annex Studios, judgment is left outside - our core values are respect, trust and care. Whether it’s a hug and a blow dry, or a colour correction to fix that home colour gone wrong, your needs and feelings are imperative. We are real, honest and reliable, with a little kooky spice thrown in for giggles.
The original Annex Studios at Rebecca’s parent’s house.
The Annex Studios was originally an annex attached to Rebecca’s (the salon owner) parents’ house. This was the very start of The Annex Studios, then called The Annex.
Rebecca was a sole parent, and when her two children were very young, she was given her inheritance early when, sadly, her father Warren was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour and just two years to live.
It was then Rebecca decided, after working with the Toni and Guy group for thirteen years, she was ready to make the brave and scary leap into self-employment, starting her own business and carving out exactly what she wanted.
A beautiful new Annex was born, and people came from far and wide. Even from abroad to the small salon on a housing estate known for its warm and personal nature, amazing standards and professional know-how. This personal touch is what brought people to Rebecca, sometimes even sitting outside in the garden drinking a cheeky gin and tonic while colour developed, a great time was had by all. And so wonderful for Warren to witness the start of a fresh, new future for his daughter, building in front of his eyes. Priceless and very emotional!
This was the foundation for the design of The Annex Studios. We now had the keys to a big empty shop which was previously a tailor, where Rebecca’s late father used to buy his best coats and suits (a perfect fit!) The design also had to be inclusive of sustainability.
