Pride in the community
We’re just going to throw this right at you like a rainbow glitter bomb! - We hosted Rugby’s FIRST EVER pride event. That’s right, ever! This was one of our proudest moments of our first year.
Celebrating in style!
Month three of opening our doors, we excitedly put our rainbow pride flags up high on our shop front for the whole world to see. We advertised the event through social media groups and friends. Local businesses caught on too and they kindly offered their support with advertising, music and even an after party!
Each ticket sold went into a big pot and every single penny went to a brilliant charity called MIND OUT who support people in the LGBTQI community, assisting them with any support they may need.
Party time at the Annex
A fantastic local and well known band called Behind The Settee generously offered to play, donating their time and payment, and a local DJ who plays a guest set in many LGBTQI nightclubs was so thrilled to be part of this historic event that he even brought disco lights to the salon.
We remember that night full of happy, merry people, laughing, dancing and having a great time. Some with tears in their eyes, we must add. One fabulous attendee told us something we will never forget:
“The event wasn’t about making money, it was about supporting local community and showing pride.”
The following days, we noticed huge interest and a boost of enquiries from local LGBTQI individuals. These people came to trust us even more with confidential services such as transitioning, or encouraging and polishing their look, personal style and identity.
What a huge compliment for us to receive on our first year. It truly was an honour.
Another charity that is awfully close to The Annex Studio family’s heart is The Myton at Home and Brain Tumour Support, for obvious reasons, so we made it our mission to continually give something back.
Every fringe trim is a donation to the charity, and we plan to throw a black-tie event in partnership with Venture Photography Leamington Spa. There will also be other local businesses taking part, all raising money for these fantastic causes.
